SARA BAKER
"I make functional pots appropriate for everyday activities: eating, drinking, preparing and serving food. Each piece illustrates the processes behind its creation, as well as the hand of its creator, providing the vessel with a history for the user to think about and feel."
MARY GATES DEWEY
Mary came upon the idea for the cats purely by accident in 1982 and today it is only cats that leave the studio in southern Ohio. They are handmade of clay and produced by an ancient method of firing called "sawdust" or "pit firing," where smoke adheres to the hot clay and leaves its random marking to lend each cat its own personality.
PARADOX POTTERY
"Our one-of-a-kind vessels are wheel-thrown, burnished and pit fired. The current direction in our work is towards organizing the random pit fire markings into patterns to achieve a strong unity of form and surface. Our unique firing process explores the lower temperature ranges of wood, salt and soda, enhancing these patterns."
